COVID Black

COVID Black advocates for health equity by integrating storytelling with data analytics. Collaborating with Black Health Heritage Data Lab, the initiator and host of this project, included conceived the brand identity and developed a website for Covid Black that honors the experiences of those in the community who succumbed to COVID-19.

The COVID Black logo was awarded by Graphis Design International and published in the Graphis Design Design Annual 2022.

The COVID Black logo is inspired by the West African Adinkra symbols.

Data is more than facts and statistics. Black health data represents life and health. COVID Black redefines traditional health data into living data, and mixed media stories about the lived black health experience.
AYA – The West African Adinkra symbol for the "fern." The fern is a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places. Individuals who wear this symbol have endured many adversities and outlasted much difficulty. This icon was used on the website as a symbol of hope for those who have lost loved ones during the pandemic.
